Rob Gobel Demonstration night

Rob Gobel Demonstration night

Another interesting evening was enjoyed at the latest Meeting held on Monday 16th January in the Driffield Community Centre, Mill Street.

A demonstration on water based mixed media techniques was given by Rob Gobel, a retired dentist from Kilham,

The demonstration certainly lived up to its title as Rob showed his individual technique of mixing water colours  with pastels, acrylics, inks, pen work and various washes all together in one composition.

Art Club members were intrigued by Rob’s laid back approach to his work and there was plenty of interest in the different techniques which members were encouraged to apply to their own work.

The Chair, Mary Wells, thanked Rob for his talk and announced that the next meeting is scheduled for Monday 20th February at 7 pm when Heather Burton of Spaldington would be returning to further develop her acrylic palette knife paintings, begun at an earlier demonstration  in November.

Visitors are always welcome at any forthcoming meetings.

Driffield Art Club’s Christmas meeting

Driffield Art Club’s Christmas meeting

Our Christmas party on Dec 12th was very eventful – first of all we had a very interesting talk about David Hockney by Rose Horspool then enjoyed a buffet brought by the membership.

A donation was made to the Children’s University Painting project by Dac and presented to Rose to pass on ( Rose does a lot of work with the Children’s University Charity at Hull University) then we all voted for our favourite piece of artwork from entries submitted by members – this Year’s theme was ‘Florally Inspired’ and the winner was Kay Jones pictured here being presented with the Bobbie Simmons Memorial trophy by our President Cath Inglis.

Heather Burton’s demonstration

Heather Burton’s demonstration

Heather Burton did a wonderful demonstration for us in November 2016 – she showed us how she starts and gradually builds up her paintings by demonstrating first a portrait then a landscape using palette knife and acrylic paint.
