Driffield Art Club was invited to take part in a 30-day painting challenge by the SAA (Society for All Artists) ‘Paint magazine’ editor.
The membership was then invited by Mary Wells (Chair) to come up with an idea for their own challenge with the intention of raising some money for Charity for Christmas 2017 and for the opportunity to appear in Paint magazine and on the SAA website and also to win £50 of art vouchers for Driffield Art Club.
Members that took up the challenge were David Brown, Gwen Clarke, Mimi Claughton, Carole Cutland, Bev Donohue, Janet Saxby, Carolynn Warley and Mary Wells.
The chosen theme was ‘Thirty days hath September, April June and November…’ and some artists chose to create artwork representing these four months.
The artwork was put into an auction at Dee, Atkinson Harrison at Driffield on December 15th 2017 and the unsold work was then put up for sale online via the art club’s Facebook page and other social media.
Six paintings have been sold to date (Jan 2018) raising £100 for *Charity.
*Each year Driffield Art Club choose a charity to support at Christmastime. In 2017 the chosen charity was Charcot Marie Tooth UK. The artists who took part in the 30 Day Challenge agreed to donate the £100 from sales of their work to this cause.
Charcot Marie Tooth is a debilitating condition which affects the nervous system. DAC member Brian Mellonby who has been Workshop Secretary for many years for the club has a grandson, Lewis Sharp, who suffers from this condition.
