Tim Rose gave an excellent demonstration of how to create a watercolour of an architectural street scene with figures. His mixes of colour and tonal values brought the painting to life using techniques such as negative painting behind the figures and blending washes of pinks and yellows, siennas and violets on the roads and buildings and for stronger shadows, adding blues and purples.

The finished work, a street in Sheffield town centre, had depth and interest – the focal point being the group of figures walking in the streets past the tram.
